Raised in a household surrounded by siblings involved in drawing, it became very natural for Yasmin to develop an interest in art.  The “paper doll” cut-outs her sisters drew resonated with her and were more than just a pretty drawing.  They took on their own characteristics and attitudes.   As she grew older, a passion for drawing portraits and notorious figures grew until she eventually began developing characters of her own.  Her art has become a representation of the world we live in today.  It conveys a visual message, be it pleasing or disturbing.  Her inspiration is derived from the relatable and in her case, work revolves around the Millennial generation.  Exaggerated features and a dramatic aesthetic is what Yasmin creates a fun way to touch on relevant subjects without the fear or worry of having to be pretty.  A Graphic Design graduate, she has used that knowledge in helping her refine different elements she applies in her paintings.  She is a self-taught artist and creates from a place of limitless freedom.  Best advice she’s received is to “draw something that’ll make people say “What the F***” before saying “That’s so pretty.”  An active artist within the community, Yasmin has had her work exposed at the Montreal Comicon and collaborates with a variety of artists.  She has a compassion for and fascinated by vulnerability within one’s work.  Exposing yourself through your art is a part of being an artist.  Herein lies the the appreciation without judgement.  Yasmin hopes to continue to evolve and convey important messages through her work, creating enjoyable and relevant work.
